Morristown-Hamblen EMS is the primary emergency medical services provider for Morristown and Hamblen County, Tennessee. We are dedicated to delivering the highest standard of pre-hospital emergency care to every member of our community.

History

The roots of emergency medical service in Hamblen County stretch back to 1955, when a small group of dedicated local volunteers came together to form the Morristown Rescue Squad. Driven by a shared commitment to protecting their neighbors, these founding members laid the groundwork for organized emergency response in the region.

As the field of emergency medicine evolved and the State of Tennessee moved to raise the standard of pre-hospital care, Morristown-Hamblen Emergency Medical Service was established in 1984 to meet the state’s mandate requiring a licensed Emergency Medical Technician on the majority of emergency calls within a county. What began as a response to a regulatory requirement quickly grew into something far greater — a professional agency dedicated to the health and safety of every resident in Hamblen County.

In 1985, Morristown-Hamblen EMS was granted full licensure by the State of Tennessee and became an incorporated agency, marking the official beginning of the organization that continues to serve the community today. From those early volunteer days to a fully staffed, Advanced Life Support agency, MHEMS carries forward the same spirit of service that inspired its founding over 70 years ago.
